End Times

When you’re asked where you’re going, wouldn’t it be really cool to smirk and say, “To Oblivion”?

Well, that works, if you’re actually going to see the movie Oblivion. And you can see it if you win this site’s latest contest.

OBN_Adv1Sht

The film stars Tom Cruise as one of the last remaining humans living on a post-apocalyptic Earth. He rescues a beautiful stranger, and pretty soon things get kooky for him. Morgan Freeman is around to lend gravitas.

You can enter for the chance to win passes to a screening in one of the following cities:

Houston

Los Angeles

Miami

New York City

Dallas

All you have to do is comment on one of my posts (including this one) about anything you please. Just make sure to tell me what city you plan to see the movie in, so I can allocate the passes.

If you win, I’ll email you the tickets. By the way, I won’t make your contact info public, so don’t worry about that.

I’ll announce the contest winners in the next week or so.

In the meantime, keep prepping for that doomsday scenario. Just in case.

You Shall Not Pass!

Actually, two people shall pass. Ana in Miami and Janee in Los Angeles won the contest for tickets to see The Hobbit.

I hope Ana and Janee enjoy the flick. I plan to catch the movie myself soon, probably sometime between second and third breakfasts.

Precious…

I recently announced that I would not be updating this site as often, due to the impending arrival of a certain infant Latina.

But don’t worry. I’m still doing the movie contests.

In fact, the last giveaway for 2012 is a big one. I’m offering you the chance to win passes to Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, which will be screened in the following cities:

Chicago, IL

Dallas, TX

El Paso, TX

Houston, TX

Los Angeles, CA

Miami, FL

Yes, The Hobbit is Jackson’s return to Middle Earth, with dragons and sorcerers and goblins and… well, come on, you don’t need me to tell you how fantastically awesome The Lord of the Rings was.

In the meantime, I’ll be here, sharpening my orc-killing blade.

Then Again, He Did Date Jennifer Lopez

I’m happy to announce that Lucy in Dallas has won the contest for passes to see the upcoming Ben Affleck movie Argo.

With hope, Lucy in Dallas will report back to us and let us know if Affleck is indeed playing a Latino in this movie (his character’s name is Mendez). If so, we’ll have a debate on what that’s all about.

I mean, he doesn’t look like a Mendez to me…

Secret Mission

Changes are coming to the way we do business here at Hispanic Fanatic world headquarters. Before I get into all that, however, let’s squeeze in another movie contest.

All you have to do is comment on one of my posts (including this one) and you’ll be entered for the chance to win passes to the upcoming Ben Affleck movie Argo, which will be screened in the following cities:

Dallas, TX

El Paso, TX

Houston, TX

Los Angeles, CA

McAllen, TX

Miami, FL

Phoenix, AZ

San Antonio, TX

San Jose, CA

Based on true events, Argo is about a life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans during the Iran hostage crisis in 1979. And best of all, the lead character has a Latino name (Mendez)!

If you win, I’ll email you the passes. By the way, I won’t make your contact info public, so don’t worry about that.

I’ll announce the contest winners in the next week or so. In the meantime, let’s get those comments flying.

Popcorn and Pot

I’m happy to announce that we have a winner to last week’s contest. Lana L. of Miami is the lucky recipient of passes to see Savages.

The film is about some California guys who run into trouble with a Mexican drug cartel. There will be numerous glaring and menacing Hispanics in it, I’m sure, and probably a few giggling and/or paranoid white people too.

With hope, Lana L. will comment back and let us know if there are any positive portrayals of Latinos in it. But at the very least, I’m sure Salma Hayek will look great on the big screen, as always.

Thanks to everybody who commented.

Black Hats

So I recently watched the horror-comedy Attack the Block, a British movie about an alien invasion of the inner-city projects. Yes, it’s as preposterous as it sounds, and while far from brilliant, it’s a fun ninety minutes.

However, I made a classic internet mistake after I saw the movie: I read other people’s comments on the film.

Smuggler’s Blues

I’m happy to announce that we have a pair of winners to last week’s contest. Ms. JT and Todd S. are the lucky recipients of passes to see Contraband.

The film is about a smuggler who is recruited to do the infamous “one last job” that always ends in death and/or dismemberment for lots of people.

We eagerly await the winners’ review of the movie. Thanks to everybody who commented.

We now resume our regularly scheduled 2012.

Starting Out Right

So we’re plummeting headlong into 2012, the supposed year when all of us will meet a fiery end because my Mayan ancestors made a creepy prediction centuries ago (actually, they did no such thing, but that’s another story).

If we’re all going to succumb this year, we might as well have fun. So I’m happy to announce another contest for movie tickets.

The movie in question is Contraband, a new thriller staring Mark Wahlberg.

What’s it about? Well, apparently Wahlberg is a former smuggler who is forced to get back into the business to save his family. He runs contraband and journeys to Panama to settle his brother’s debt before his son and wife are targeted by both the cops and hit men.

And I’m assuming there’s a car chase in there somewhere.

In any case, I will be giving out tickets to readers in one or more of the following cities:

Chicago
Dallas
Houston
Los Angeles
Miami
New York City
Phoenix
San Antonio
San Diego

All you have to do is comment on one of my posts (including this one) and you’ll be entered for the chance to win free passes to the film. Once again, your comment can be about anything, and if you’re stumped, just tell us your favorite Mark Wahlberg movie (personally, I’m going with The Departed).

The only thing you have to include in your comment is the city in which you intend to see the movie, so I can plan accordingly.

If you win, I’ll email the passes to you. By the way, I’m the sole person who will see your email addresses (unless you specifically want to share it in the body of your comment), so don’t worry about that.

I’ll announce the contest winners in the next week or so.

Until then, take Mark Wahlberg’s advice, and try to refrain from smuggling anything.

Happy New Year.

Very Superstitious

We Latinos love our horror movies.

If there are shrieking demons, knife-wielding maniacs, or bloodthirsty poltergeists up on the screen, there are probably lots of Hispanics watching it.
